You're in the right place. Here, I've put on display the last dozen of my favourite photos for you to look at - as new photos are added, old ones are pushed out. Each image is thumbnailed and described so that you have an idea of what you're looking at before you open the full-size version. If there's a photo that you think I've taken and you would like to see it on this page (so that you can save it for yourself too), all you have to do is ask me, and I'll put it up here as soon as I can (usually once a week or so).
Now, a few words before you jump straight in. As I mentioned earlier and you can see below, I've thumbnailed every picture that I upload to the site. To make them all look pretty and fit in with the colour theme of the site, though, I've applied a special filter to each one - it makes everything look more orange (you can see the effect straight away).
The full version of each photo, however, is in normal colour - all you need to do is click through on the link that says [ Large Rainbow Version ], and you'll see it in sixteen million colours, as well as the bigger picture. Also worth noting, the thumbnails only show a small part of the image - for example, the face of the subject instead of their whole body - it's just a habit I've developed. So, when you see the thumbnails, realise that what you see there is not the whole photo.
One more thing, on that subject. My camera can take pictures at 1600 by 1200 (that's a size measured in pixels - about two and a half times bigger than most people's desktops), but I don't upload them at that size - most of them are 900 pixels wide instead of 1600. I've found that at this size, images still retain most of their detail, while being a manageable size for you to download and me to upload. If there's any picture you really want the full version of, gimme a whistle and I'll see what I can do for you.
By the way... since I'm opening up this site a while after I first got my camera, there are some photos that I want to display first before I get to my latest ones. Recent photos will start appearing when I've exhausted my older collection. Thanks for your patience, and enjoy these older gems until then!
Alright then! After that ado about not much, here are the pictures! Most recent up the top and oldest down the bottom.
"Sparkles" [ Large Rainbow Version ] This is a very artsy shot. I took it on the drama excursion to the Opera House - so that's Sydney Harbour, right there (with Shayne peering in at top right). The full photo has the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background.
"Creaming Soda" [ Large Rainbow Version ] You really have to look at this entire photo. It's actually eight photos in one - a comic, if you want to call it that - no dialogue, but very funny nonetheless (the star is Harry, do I need to say any more?). The one thing you need to know before viewing the whole thing is that the boys and I are all out to save a buck or two where we can - and if that means, ummm, buying unchilled creaming soda then pouring it into a cup filled with McDonald's ice, then so be it.
"Gaston & Nguyen" [ Large Rainbow Version ] I'm not sure what's special, if anything at all, about this photo. It was one of my earlier ones, and so my technique wasn't that good (still isn't exactly crash-hot), but I liked what I captured in this one. Gaston and Nguyen are laughing at something... I think someone just got hit in the head with the soccer ball.
"Vice Captain Man" [ Large Rainbow Version ] I've known Andrew for seven years now - half of my waking life - and I've always thought he had it in him to lead. That was confirmed when he became school captain of North Rocks Public (the primary school that him, Ramesh, and I shared), and it was confirmed again when he became vice captain of Ruse. It didn't surprise me, but by the look of the huge smile on his face all the way home on the bus, I think it surprised him! Get used to this face - you'll be seeing it a lot in future. Mostly to the tune of 'Gaudeamus Igitur'... or however you spell it (the Latin song played at the beginning of each school assembly).
"Speckled" [ Large Rainbow Version ] A sky. A sky?! So it's just a sky. Anyone who's known me for a great length of time knows that I'm fascinated by skies (maybe you've never noticed it before - well, now you know why I often spend idle minutes arching my neck to gaze at the sky). When I first held my Sony camera in my hands, I knew what awaited me. As soon as I saw a cool sky - this wasn't the first, but it was one of the better ones - I quickly pulled the little silver thing out of my blazer pocket and took a few snaps. This one is named for obvious reasons.
"Flag & Peace" [ Large Rainbow Version ] Wasn't sure how I should have named this one, so I left both original name ideas in the filename. When you open up the large version of this, you'll be met by what I maintain is the coolest sky I've ever seen. I'm quite sure I captured it on a free period (no doubt with Jim floundering around yelling "Why are you pointing your camera at that stupid flag!!"). But it just looks really, really cool. Open it up and see for yourself.
"Circle O' Hack" [ Large Rainbow Version ] It's such an elusive pursuit for those who don't understand it. Other sports have running around, or goals to achieve, or time trials to beat. But in hacki-sack, all you do is kick a little sack of dried rice around. The name is borrowed, with much thankfulness, from Jono, who coined the term which we use to call a circle of people playing this game. This is one of those circles, down in front of the lecture theatre, waiting for Crossroads to begin.
"Atomic Monkey Lung" [ Large Rainbow Version ] Do not adjust your screen. That is my beloved friend, Jeremy Lung, in the flesh. Well, kinda. Did you know that people fall into two major divisions? Those who, upon being given the opportunity to have photos of themselves taken, either shy away completely; or do Really Really Stupid Stuff™ in front of the camera!! Okay, so that's a bit of an over-simplification, but if it was true, I know that some of my friends - Lung included - would definitely fit into the second category. Joey and Dennis too! But Lung's 'Atomic Monkey' impression is everyone's favourite.
"World Cup Social" [ Large Rainbow Version ] Soccer is a wonderful thing... that is, until people start rioting and hurting people because their team loses (looks in the general direction of England). Thankfully, no such thing happened at the (shameless plug) ISCF World Cup social, where we put the third-place playoffs up on the big screen and played indoor soccer in the hall. It was mad fun! I'll certainly be back at school in 2006 when they hold the next one!
"Lens" [ Large Rainbow Version ] Cameras have some interesting perks. One of them is called a 'lens flare' - when you have a source of light in the picture, or nearby, these little marks begin to appear on the lens. You can see some particularly cool ones in this photo that I've taken, which if you're curious, is outside my backyard.
"Jimbo The Goa'uld" [ Large Rainbow Version ] The Goa'uld are a scifi invention featuring in Stargate (7:30pm Thursday on Seven). They're a race of creatures that look not unlike snakes - the nasty bit happens when you find out that they attach themselves to humans and possess them. Not very nice, huh? Well, among the bag of tricks that they have is that they make their host's eyes glow, and they can use a special weapon on their hand called a ribbon device. As a favour to Jimbo (James Lee to the rest of the world), I did him up to look like one of these alien dudes. (Yes, a favour.)
"My Piano" [ Large Rainbow Version ] I admire anyone who can play a musical instrument (voices included). Now, I can't play a piano to save my life - I got to grade one, and then my piano teacher told me my hands were too small - but my sister does, and it sounds beautiful. Most of the people I know who can also play piano sound really cool too (though pretty much none of them admit it!). Anyway, this is my piano, sitting in my living room.
